How To Handle What Goes Wrong At Your Child’s Birthday
Welcome back to part two of our blog series on how to deal with when things go wrong at your child’s birthday party! If you would like to learn more about how things can go wrong at a birthday party, check out part one of our blog series here. Aside from booking your event at Jumpin’ Jamboree, the best way to make sure you can handle the messes and meltdowns is to be prepared for disaster to strike no matter where you are. In the last blog, we discussed what can potentially go wrong at your child’s party. In this blog, we’ll help you handle those situations like a boss, and minimize your risk of having to deal with total chaos or your own mental breakdown.
HOW TO HANDLE HYPER KIDS
It’s impossible to avoid the fact that kids are just small balls of energy. You can’t do a whole lot about that. However, you can assess who you’re inviting. If your birthday party group is full of kids that are constantly bouncing off the walls, give them an outlet. The best way to minimize the risk of objects being thrown, or kids bumping into things and breaking things or getting hurt is to create a birthday party that has a physical element to it. Create a space where they can run around and play and get that hyperactive energy out before you eat, open presents, etc. Jumpin’ Jamboree is the perfect place for your hyperactive child and their friends because it’s an indoor playground where they can run around and play, and almost literally bounce off the walls, while you can watch and take rest.
HOW TO FACILITATE THE GAMES.
The best kind of games are the ones you don’t have to facilitate. In order to prevent having to facilitate games that cause you stress and can lead to a child meltdown, give your child and their friends free play. The truth is, at any age, imaginative kids don’t really need facilitated activities. Make the birthday party the activity and allow them to play. They’ll get their energy out, they’ll have fun, and you’ll be able to make sure no one gets hurt, which is enough of a job in itself.
HOW TO HAVE BIRTHDAY TREATS WITH KIDS.
Pizza. Pizza is your best friend. It’s possible to have a great birthday party that’s not full of sugar. Make it a pizza party, and escape the sugar rush. That way there’s not an overindulgence in sugary food that leads to stomach aches, and your child is still having a great time enjoying yummy food, because who doesn’t like pizza? At Jumpin’ Jamboree, our birthday parties are always pizza parties, and we provide the pizza! Sit back, relax, and enjoy your child’s birthday with them.
MINIMIZE GIFT ENVY.
The best way to minimize gift envy, and to limit the risk of other children stealing your child’s gifts, is to give them something else to occupy their attention. Give the kids their party favors while your child is opening their gifts. Doing this gives them something to occupy their attention as well as something to play with, distracting them from the temptation of the wrapping paper and the potential gift your child is opening. Then, once your child is finished opening their birthday presents, put them away and don’t allow anyone to play with them. That way, your child will get to play with their toy only, and no one has a meltdown.
